I love feature films, especially terrible ones about motor racing - here is a selection of them with very detailed reviews by me, let me know of any I have missed any I'll add them in (only ones specifically about racing though, not car ones)
Talladega Nights: the Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2006) - Nascar as it isn't, never was and probably never will be. A pit crew chappy becomes a famous racing driver and enjoys considerable product placement! |
LeMans (1971) - Steve McQueen walks around the pits looking a bit moody whilst wearing a nice watch. He then has a big crash but still manages to finish the race having stolen someone else's car. |
Days of Thunder (1990) - Tom Cruise plays a bloke who seems to have never driven a car before while a chap called Harry shouts at him and eats ice cream. |
Grand Prix (1966) - James Garner and some French bloke race in old cars while Eva Marie Saint watches. She looks a bit bored; she's not the only one. |
The Last American Hero (1973) - Jeff Bridges races in some really rough old NASCARs after running some moonshine for his Dad. |
Stroker Ace (1983) - Burt Reynolds says 'whatever' a lot while he drives a NASCAR dressed as a chicken. Moonshine plays a part in this film too. |
The Love Bug (1969) - An old VW Beetle beats loads of much betters cars while David Tomlinson looks on in a devilish style. Some Spitfires too. |
Winning (1969) - Paul Newman gets married and then drives a racing car. Warning: this is possibly the dullest film of all genres ever made, ever, ever. |
Driven (2001) - Oh dear. But with a strap line 'Welcome to the Human Race' what did you expect? I can't think it referred to Stallone. |
Checkpoint (1956) - Stanley Baker signs on for a race wearing goggles so that no-one will recognise that he has taken someone's place...really...it's that bad. |
The Green Helmet (1961) - Absolutely none of the thrills of Le Mans, Silverstone, Sebring or Mille Miglia Races! |
Roadracers (1959) - not seen it yet but it's probably
awful...I have now seen it and I was right. Forget "straight to DVD"
this should have been "straight to rubbish bin". Possibly the worst use of
99p in my entire life.
I have actually watched it twice now and it was even worse the second time round...do not ever be tempted to watch this pile of festering poop. Click here for a proper review!

Mask of Dust (1954) - Unviewed by me but very likely
to be terrible. Click here for a proper review!
